Sex and Scandals: Semi-Private Louvre Museum Tour with Reserved Entry Time

This tour aims to answer the questions that a typical visit to the Louvre would not. Have you ever wondered why Greek and Roman sculptures are so poorly endowed or what really made the Mona Lisa so famous? Art has always pushed the boundaries of society and artists are often inspired by sex, scandals, and the tumultuous relationships that surround them.  No topic is off-limits and questions you may have been too polite to ask in the past will be answered. With such a vast collection of art work at the Louvre there is bound to be a scandal or two! Please note, this tour is for people eighteen or older. Please contact us if you would like us to make an exception.

Tour Details

Enter the louvre with your reserved entry time ticket and begin with a brief introduction to the Louvre as a palace before moving into Greek Hellenistic art, where sex was a part of daily life.  Your guide will show you key pieces from this era with special attention to anatomy and masculinity in art before bringing you to the seductive Venus de Milo. From there, you will move through Roman sculptures to see how icons from Christianity often have their roots in Ancient Rome. You will also compare the male form to what you saw in the Greek collection, all the while learning about juicy details of sex, adultery, trickery, and more. Your introduction to antiquity culminates with the Winged Victory of Samothrace.  From here, you will see one of the few rooms left in the louvre in its original condition and then move on to Italian renaissance and learn about the rivalry among the artists whose paintings you will marvel at. We will help you answer the question of who Mona Lisa really is and why Leonardo was so infatuated by “her”. From here you will see some of the most recent pieces in the louvre from French artists of the 19th century. Before you leave the museum, you will see one last gallery of sculpture including Michelangelo’s sexualised slaves!
