Semi-Private Homoerotic Louvre Musem Tour with Reserved Entry Time

This nearly two-and-a-half-hour museum tour is led by a passionate and expert tour guide. Throughout the history of art, the male nude and homosexuality have been catalysts in the development of art. This unique tour will bring you through the depiction on not only homosexuality but also of masculinity and nudity over a period of 9000 years from Mesopotamia to 19th century French paintings. Although the main theme of much of the paintings in the Louvre is religious, the painters behind them wove a saucy network of affairs and sex - often with each other. If you want to learn about the drama between Raphael, Leonardo, and Michelangelo and how this manifested in their art and portrayals of men, this is the tour for you!

Tour Details

This tour will bring you through the evolution of masculinity and nudity over 9000 years. You will start with Ancient Babylon, where you will see how the male body was portrayed to show the most masculinity possible.  You will then move on to the Greek collection, which is rife with perfect male bodies - although some of them may be lacking a certain area but your guide will elaborate on that for you! Your guide will also discuss the prevalence of homosexuality in daily Ancient Greek life. You will see why the Venus de Milo is not the most feminine piece in the Louvre and be able to compare through art how the ancient Greeks and Romans approached men in art and in life.  From here you will move on to paintings, often commissioned by the church but painted by artists with flamboyant backstories.  This, of course, is the Renaissance, including the Mona Lisa who might not be whom you think “she” is.  A homoerotic tour of the Renaissance would not be complete without viewing works by Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo.  You will also see how French artists approached nudity and homosexuality to wrap up the 9000 years of homoerotic art history.
